Mr Seng, 59, ran onto the stage at the Yio Chu Kang Community Club, where he was attending a community event, trying desperately to beat out the flames on his back and head.

MPs must be accessible

WHILE MPs can take precautions against mischief-makers, they must remain accessible to their residents and approachable, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, after visiting injured MP Seng Han Thong in hospital on Sunday.

Calling the attack on the Yio Chu Kang MP a 'most unfortunate' incident, Mr Lee urged MPs to be careful about their own security when they carry out their public duties but said they 'have to be accessible' and 'be in contact' with their constituents.

GAZA CITY - ISRAEL indicated for the first time on Sunday that an end was in sight to its war on Hamas, amid some of the heaviest clashes of an offensive that has killed nearly 900 people in the Gaza Strip.

This issue has been discussed extensively with the Mufti, the highest Islamic authority here, and other religious leaders, he added.
