SRINAGAR (India) - A COURT in Indian-run Kashmir ordered the arrest of four police officers on Wednesday for allegedly destroying evidence in the rape and murder of two women that triggered violent protests last month.

Barin Ghosh, chief justice of the Jammu-Kashmir High Court, also DNA samples from the four men to be matched with the semen found on the bodies of the two women - a 17-year-old girl and her 22-year-old sister-in-law.

 
Taiwan grounds F-5 jets

TAIPEI - TAIWAN'S air force said Wednesday that it had grounded its ageing F-5 fighter jet fleet for urgent safety checks after one plane crashed, killing two pilots.

'All the flights of the F-5s have been halted until a thorough safety check is completed,' an air force spokesman said.

India tightens security

NEW DELHI - INDIA tightened security in the financial hub of Mumbai after intelligence agencies warned of possible militant strikes in at least seven places, a senior police officer said on Wednesday.

Mumbai police received intelligence warnings several days ago and said the information had nothing to do with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's planned visit to the city this week, senior police officer Rakesh Maria said.

Chen to sue over bail rejection

TAIPEI- TAIWAN'S detained former president Chen Shui-bian is planning to sue the judges who have refused to grant him bail three times while held on corruption charges, his office said on Wednesday.
