WASHINGTON - CHINA has given its word to the United States that it is 'deeply committed' to implementing tough new nuclear sanctions against North Korea, a senior US official said on Friday.

 
Top US aide meets Singh

NEW DELHI - A TOP aide of US President Barack Obama held talks with Indian leaders on Friday on Washington's revamped security policy in the region.

US National Security Adviser James Jones, who arrived in New Delhi late on Thursday after stops in Afghanistan and Pakistan, met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Indian National Security Adviser MK Narayanan, a government spokesman told AFP.

Mt Wutai added to Unesco list

MADRID - UNESCO on Friday added China's Mount Wutai, a sacred Buddhist mountain, to its World Heritage List.

Military reform unveiled

SEOUL - SOUTH Korea on Friday unveiled a military reform package worth 599.3 trillion won (S$677.4 billion) aimed at streamlining its army and increasing its artillery in the face of North Korea's nuclear and missile threats.

The plan focuses on the need to expand its range of high-tech military assets capable of monitoring and striking North Korean nuclear and missile bases.
