KABUL - AUTHORITIES in Afghanistan said on Friday that troops had killed 53 militants in an upsurge of violence across the war-torn country that also left 11 Afghan soldiers and civilians dead.

 
'Inconclusive': US

WASHINGTON - INITIAL US testing to determine whether North Korea fired a nuclear device on Monday proved 'inconclusive,' said a US official on Friday.

'The first test results came in inconclusive. They did not find anything that could confirm a nuclear device was detonated,' said the US official, who declined to be named.

N.Korea may plan missile test

WASHINGTON - US officials say there are more signs North Korea may be planning even more missile launches in a show of strength following worldwide condemnation of its underground nuclear test.

China frees US students
