TOKYO - SOME Asian nations enforced checks on Saturday on passengers and pork products from Mexico amid fears that its deadly outbreak of swine flu might spread to a continent that has battled hard to contain bird flu.

Japan's biggest international airport stepped up health surveillance, while the Philippines said it may quarantine passengers with fevers who have been to Mexico. Health authorities in Thailand and Hong Kong said they were closely monitoring the situation.

Gandhi will refuse PM job
KOLKATA (India) - RAHUL Gandhi, scion of India's most powerful family dynasty and touted as a future prime minister, on Saturday said he would refuse to accept the top job if it was offered to him after the April/May general election.

The 38-year-old Gandhi, whose father, grandmother and great grandfather were all prime ministers, is backed by some senior Congress leaders and millions of supporters to take over the top job, replacing the current Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
