WASHINGTON - CHINA'S rapidly growing military strength is shifting the military balance in the region and could be used to force its claims in disputed territories, a US Defense Department report said on Wednesday.

Beijing continues to develop weapons that threaten longtime rival Taiwan, even though tensions between the two have been reduced significantly, the report said.

 
FBI to probe Mumbai attacks

NEW DELHI - AN FBI team held talks on Wednesday with Indian officials over November's Mumbai attacks which killed 165 people, officials said.

'The FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) arrived in New Delhi last evening and they will travel to Mumbai after meeting officials from the external affairs ministry and others here,' a home ministry official said.

1st milk lawsuit accepted

BEIJING - A CHINESE court has officially accepted the first lawsuit seeking compensation for last year's tainted milk scandal, state media said on Wednesday, opening up the possibility of a flood of court actions.

A district court in the northern city of Shijiazhuang decided on Wednesday that it would hear the suit filed against the Sanlu Group, the dairy firm at the centre of the poisoned milk controversy, Xinhua news agency said.
