TOKYO - A POLITICAL scandal in Japan widened on Thursday when government figures said they too had taken money linked to a construction firm whose murky donations have led to the arrest of an opposition aide.

Japan to reduce whale hunts

TOKYO - JAPAN is considering reducing the number of whales it catches each year, the Asahi newspaper reported on Thursday, as an international body fights to bridge a divide between nations for and against whaling.

Japan, which carries out what it calls research whaling despite an international ban on commercial hunting, currently aims to catch about 900 a year Antarctic waters.

Gandhi glasses auction off

NEW DELHI - THE US owner of Mahatma Gandhi's iconic round glasses and other items said on Thursday he has agreed in principal to cancel a controversial auction and donate the belongings to India.
