NEW DELHI - INDIA'S prime minister sought to lower tensions with neighboring Pakistan on Tuesday in the wake of the Mumbai attacks, saying 'nobody wants war.'

The investigation into the attacks that killed 164 people has strained relations between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan, longtime rivals that have fought three wars since gaining independence from Britain in 1947.

 
Man arrested for fake uniforms

BEIJING - CHINA has added police uniforms to a long list of fake products discovered by the authorities, who have also broken up a scam involving potato starch, state media said on Tuesday.

Press distorted reports?

BEIJING - CHINA accused the Western media on Tuesday of distorting UN reports on its arms sales to Zimbabwe, but stopped short of clarifying the exact nature of such deals.

Mr Qin Gang, a spokesman for the Chinese foreign ministry, made the comment following a report published by a United Nations experts group on the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Bangladesh reports bird flu

DHAKA - BANGLADESHI authorities said on Tuesday a new outbreak of bird flu had been detected at a village in the north of the country as they struggled to contain the disease.

Livestock department spokesman Salahuddin Khan said at least 100 birds were slaughtered on a farm in the northern Kurigram district late on Monday after the deadly H5N1 strain of avian influenza was discovered.
