Tropical Storm Carlos stronger

MIAMI - TROPICAL Storm Carlos is getting stronger as it swirls far off Mexico's Pacific coast.

The storm's maximum sustained winds have increased to near 100 kph and the National Hurricane Center in Miami says the storm is expected to become a hurricane later on Saturday.

As of 0900 GMT (5pm Singapore time) on Saturday, Carlos was centered about 1,535 kilometres south-southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula.

The storms is moving west near 21 kph on a path taking it farther out to sea. -- AP
