Doc to pay for dolphin therapy

VIENNA - AN AUSTRIAN doctor whose error was blamed for leaving a child nearly quadriplegic must pay more than 600,000 euros for the patient's dolphin therapy in Florida, a court ruling published on Monday said.

The 12-year-old regained some mobility thanks to the dolphin therapy, according to Die Presse newspaper.

The doctor had decided the child did not need to be resuscitated at birth.

The obstetrician has since been forced to pay for the child's permanent care.

The doctor was ordered to pay 628,550 euros (S$1.3 million) for the child's dolphin therapy, the newspaper said. -- AFP
