Transport secretary quits

LONDON - BRITISH Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon resigned on Friday from Prime Minister Gordon Brown's cabinet, media reported, making him the third senior minister to quit in 24 hours.

His departure comes after defence secretary John Hutton stepped down citing family reasons and work and pensions secretary James Purnell quit, calling for Mr Brown to resign. -- AFP
