Singapore has confirmed 3 new swine flu cases, bringing the total number to 11. Two of the three were on the same flight from New York as Singapore's seventh case, a 30-year- old Australian man who fell ill before he caught the flight. All three patients have been admitted to the Communicable Disease Centre (CDC) 2 at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
Chile also reported its first H1N1 fatality, a 37-year-old man.
South Korea confirmed a new case of swine flu, a 16-year-old male returning from the US, bringing the country's tally to 42.
Two children who last week flew to Japan from the Philippines are infected with the A(H1N1) flu virus, Japanese officials said on Wednesday. Japan had confirmed more than 350 swine flu cases by early Wednesday.
The Victoria state of Australia, which accounts for 80 per cent of the country's 500 cases, has also raised its alert level.
