BELGRADE (Serbia) - SERBIAN authorities are probing a church-sponsored drug rehab facility after a video surfaced showing one of the patients being severely beaten with shovels and brass knuckles.
Human Rights monitor Sasa Jankovic said Friday he will file torture charges against the rehabilitation center in southern Serbia run by Serbian Orthodox Church priests.
He says the government will also carry out an inspection after the Health Ministry said the facility does not have a license.
The video posted by Vreme weekly shows a young man in one of the rooms at the center being beaten with a shovel and punched by a man wearing brass knuckles.
Priests at the facility have acknowledged beatings are part of the therapy. There was no immediate comment from the Serbian Orthodox Church. -- AP
