MEXICO CITY - MEXICO City officials said on Monday another seven people were believed to have died from swine flu, as they discussed further measures to cut activity in the capital to stop its spread.

Seven people who died on Sunday in the capital were believed to have succumbed to the swine flu amid an outbreak which has sparked global alarm, the city's health officials said.

The national toll from the disease still stood at 20 confirmed deaths and a likely total of 103 deaths, a national health ministry spokesman told AFP.

The Mexico City health minister, Armando Ahued, said a total of 22 were believed to have died from swine flu in the capital.

Two of the seven who died on Sunday 'arrived (at hospital) in a very bad state' and died shortly afterwards, Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrard.

With schools, zoos, museums, churches, courts and many restaurants already closed in the urban area of some 20 million, Mr Ebrard said a further shutdown would be discussed with businesses on Monday.

'We'll meet with practically all the productive sectors of the city to (firm up) everything we can do in each company, whether it's large, medium or small, to help reduce the speed the virus spreads,' Mr Ebrard said.

Prison visits were also suspended and capital authorities were also to consider shutting down public transport. -- AFP
