Shell shuts down pipeline
LAGOS (Nigeria) - ANGLO-DUTCH oil giant Shell has shut down a major crude oil pipeline and several adjoining flow stations in Nigeria's southern Rivers State following a fire, an official said on Monday.

'Fire broke out on our Trans-Niger Pipeline yesterday (Sunday). All the feeder flowstations outside Ogoniland (in Rivers State) adjoining it have been shut down to allow for repairs,' company spokesman Precious Okolobo told AFP.

Although the spokesman declined to say the volume of crude affected, local media put it at between 120,000 and 170,000 barrels per day.

The cause of the fire was still being investigated, Okolobo said. -- AFP
