WASHINGTON -- THE US House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday passed legislation aimed at recovering US$165 million (S$249 million) in bonuses to executives of insurer AIG after it got billions of dollars in government aid.
Kicking off efforts by Congress to recoup such bonuses, the bill would authorise the US attorney general to seek repayment of past excessive compensation from employees of companies that have received more than US$10 billion in US financial aid.
Other lawmakers have suggested an excise tax to get some or all of the money back. -- REUTERS
