Mother jailed over cup of tea
DUBAI - A WOMAN has been jailed for having a cup of tea with a male friend said reports on Friday.

The British mother of two has been found guilty of adultery after her estranged Egyptian husband, Ihab El-Labban, burst into her Dubai home and found her having a cup of tea.

Marnie Pearce, 40, was separated from her husband at the time reported The Daily Telegraph.

Mr El-Labban now has custody of the couple's two children - Ziad, 4, and Laith, 7 - and Ms Pearce fears she will never see them again as she will be deported as soon as she is released from jail.

Amnesty International says Ms Pearce, who has lived in Dubai for 15 years, is "a prisoner of conscience".

Mr El-Labban made the claim of adultery - which is a crime in the strict Muslim country - during a custody battle over the boys said The Daily Telegraph.

Ms Pearce denies a physical relationship with the man and went on the run with the boys. She eventually gave herself up and handed the children over.

She has had one appeal dismissed, although a court did agree to reduce her original six-month sentence to three months.

A verdict on her most recent appeal is expected by March 16.
