PARIS - A MAJOR fire broke out early Friday at Rungis market outside Paris, which keeps the French capital supplied with all kinds of food, but no one was hurt, firemen said.
Market officials said the blaze broke out in the 1,600 square metre fruit and vegetable section of the huge market and was still raging two hours later at 4.30 am (11.30am Singapore time).
Fire department spokesman Florent Hyvert said around 100 firemen were battling the flames with 23 fire engines. The cause of the blaze was not immediately known.
It was brought under control at 5:15 am (12.15pm Singapore time). -- AFP
