Teen dies in 'fight club'
SYDNEY - A TEENAGER died three days after being punched at an after-school 'fight club' organised by the students of a south-western Sydney school.

Stephen Luu, a Year 9 student, died in Liverpool Hospital in Sydney in September last year.

According to a report in The Daily Telegraph newspaper on Thursday, the students - ranging from Year 7 to Year 9 - made a pact not to reveal what had happened, they claimed Luu had been hit on the head by a soccerball.

Records recovered by the newspaper showed that the fights had been going on for some time, many of them being filmed on students' mobile phones.

The police seized footage showing the fight involving Luu and a Year 7 student.

Luu was helped home by his brother after complaining of dizziness but his condition did not improve and he was hospitalised. He was discovered to be suffering from the congenital blood disorder Glanzmann's Thrombasthenia, in which the blood does not clot properly.

Luu was operated on for bleeding in the brain but he did not regain consciousness and died at 1pm on September 28.

Although investigations into the death were still being made, Sgt David Hatchwell of Green Valley police said no charges had been laid.

"We are waiting to receive a report from a neuro-forensic pathologist and a pathologist's report," Sgt Hatchwell said.

Sgt Hatchwell said a date had not yet been set for a coroner's hearing.
