OTTAWA - THIRTY-ONE Canadians have been charged in connection with Ontario province's largest-ever child porn investigation, and two children were rescued from abuse, police said on Thursday.
The Ontario Provincial Police and 18 municipal forces executed 33 search warrants in province-wide raids on Wednesday, resulting in 93 charges against the 31 persons, OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino told a press conference.
'What is even more important is that we have identified and ended the abuse for two children who were victims of these terrible crimes,' said Detective Frank Goldsmith.
'They were a four-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl.' The charges include sexual assault, making and possessing child pornography, as well as distributing it.
The suspects range from three youths to a 60-year-old man.
Additional arrests are pending, said Mr Fantino.
Since the creation of the Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet in 2006, Ontario police have completed 4,782 investigations and laid 1,983 charges against 634 persons. -- AFP
