Greek shipowner kidnapped
ATHENS (Greece) - GREEK police say three gunmen have kidnapped a man in a seaside suburb of Athens. Local media say the man is the founder of a major ferry company.

Police say the gunmen stopped a car in Vouliagmeni Monday morning and forced the driver and passenger into another vehicle. The driver was later released.

Police did not identify the man but local media say he is Periklis Panagopoulos.

Mr Panagopoulos founded Attica Group, a company which owned two major ferry lines, SuperFast Ferries and Blue Star Ferries, which run routes within Greece and from Greece to Italy. Mr Panagopoulos no longer runs the company.

Kidnappings are rare in Greece, but there have been occasional kidnappings of prominent local businessmen for ransom in the past. -- AP
