ATHENS (Greece) - ARSONISTS attacked 10 banks and two car dealerships around Athens early on Thursday amid New Year celebrations in the Greek capital, police said.
No injuries were or arrests were reported by authorities. The attacks caused minor damage.
Police had braced for violence at New Year following serious riots earlier this month over the police's fatal shooting of a teenage boy.
At Athens' main Syntagma Square, about 200 pro-Palestinian protesters staged a peaceful demonstration during the New Year celebrations.
The protesters chanted slogans and burned flags of Israel, the United States and the European Union.
At least five arson attacks were also reported by police in Greece's second largest city, Thessaloniki. Police also briefly clashed with protesters in the city, and fired tear gas at rock throwing demonstrators. -- AP
