PARIS - A POLICE official says a man carrying a knife has been arrested trying to enter the grounds of the French presidential palace.
An Associated Press photographer witnessed guards wrestling the man to the ground at the main entrance to the Elysee, where President Nicolas Sarkozy works.
A police official says the man was armed with a knife. The official was not authorized to speak publicly about the arrest at approximately 12.40pm (7.40pm Singapore time) on Monday and asked not to be identified by name.
The man is being held at a police station of Paris' 8th district where the Elysee Palace is located.
Mr Sarkozy was meeting with the prime minister of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic, at the time. -- AP
