Sky to show man's death

LONDON - A BRITISH television channel says it plans to broadcast the death of an American man at a Swiss euthanasia clinic.

The death of 59-year-old Craig Ewert in 2006 is due to be shown Wednesday during a documentary on the Sky Real Lives channel.

Mr Ewert had degenerative motor neuron disease and died at a clinic in Zurich run by the group Dignitas. Assisted suicide is legal in Switzerland in some circumstances and various organisations there provide suicide services.

Mr Ewert lived in Britain, where assisted suicide is banned.

The channel said the film by Oscar-winning director John Zaritsky provided 'an informative, articulate and educated insight' into the issue.

But Sky has been criticised for planning to show the moment of death. -- AP
