PARIS - THE insurer Lloyds of London is offering up to US$1 million (S$1.5 million) for information leading to the recovery of jewellery stolen in a US$108 million heist from the Harry Winston boutique in Paris last week.

It was one of the world's largest jewel heists.

The company S.W. Associates, working with Lloyds, said on Tuesday the exact compensation would be calculated according to the amount of jewellery recovered.

Four gunmen that included three dressed as women made off with the jewellery at the luxury boutique on one of Paris' ritziest streets just as night fell on Thursday. Christmas shoppers were strolling the street near the Champs-Elysees Avenue.

The heist came a year after a similar but smaller robbery at Harry Winston. A reward was offered then, to no avail. -- AP
