RALEIGH ( North Carolina) - DEMOCRAT Barack Obama says he 'absolutely' wants Republicans in his Cabinet should he win the election ON Tuesday - a rarity for US administrations.

The Democratic presidential nominee told ABC television during an interview that he has a good idea who he'd like to nominate for what he says would be a bipartisan Cabinet.

But he's not spilling any details.

He ducked the question of whether he'd like to see Defence Secretary Robert Gates stay at the Pentagon.

But Mr Obama did say that it's important for the country 'to return to a tradition of nonpartisan national security'. -- AP
