TAIPEI - TAIWAN'S weather bureau on Saturday urged residents to take precautions as Typhoon Jangmi gained strength and churned towards the island.
The bureau warned that the typhoon was expected to bring torrential rains across the island between Sunday and Monday and warned against flooding and mudslides in mountain regions.
Typhoon Jangmi was packing winds of up to 184km per hour and moving northwest at a speed of 20km per hour towards the island.
With a radius of 280km, the typhoon was 620km east-southeast off Oluanpi, the southernmost tip of Taiwan, at 9.15am (same time for Singapore).
At least 14 people were killed and seven others missing earlier this month after Typhoon Sinlaku pounded the island, causing bridges, hotels and houses to collapse. -- AFP
