4 more arrested for bombings
MUMBAI - INDIAN police on Wednesday said they arrested four more people in connection with a string of blasts which left 67 people dead and hundreds injured in two cities.

Police in India's financial hub Mumbai said the arrests were made in connection with the July 27 blasts in the western city of Ahmedabad which claimed 45 lives, and explosions on September 13 in New Delhi that killed 22.

The arrests in Mumbai takes to around 10 the number of suspects held since a dramatic gun battle between police and alleged militants in the Indian capital left two suspects and an officer dead last Friday.

Police say all the suspects belong to a little-known Islamist group which has claimed responsibility for a spate of bomb attacks across India since last year.

The Indian Mujahideen first came to public attention last November following serial blasts in Uttar Pradesh state in which at least 13 people died.

The shadowy outfit said it was also responsible for the July blasts in Ahmedabad.

The group also sent an email to media outlets after blasts in May in the tourist city of Jaipur that left 63 dead.

In the email it announced it had launched an 'open war' against India for supporting the United States. -- AFP
