TOKYO - A ROCKET at a fireworks show flew into a crowd of spectators in southwest Japan, injuring 10 people, police said on Sunday.
The injured, including an 8-month-old baby, suffered minor burns, said police official Tamoto Kameoka.
About 2,000 people were watching the show Friday in the small town of Tsuno, about 400 miles (650 kilometers) southwest of Tokyo on the island of Shikoku.
In another fireworks-related incident, a 19-year-old man was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of hitting 11 people with his car in a parking lot after a fireworks show on Friday night in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, said a police spokesman who declined to give his name according to department policy.
The man's car was surrounded after an argument and he hit a group of people as he attempted to leave, although no one suffered any serious injuries, according to media reports.
Fireworks shows are a traditional feature of the summer festival season in Japan, with large shows attracting tens of thousands of spectators. -- AP
