WASHINGTON - HERE is a tally of preliminary results in the US presidential election, based on projections by US networks.
At 1030 GMT (6.30pm Singapore time), with results given in 46 states and the District of Columbia, Obama had 349 and McCain had 163 of the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the White House, out of a total of 538.
Two states – North Carolina and Missouri remained too close to call. States are apportioned electoral votes according to the size of their population, and in most of the 50 states the winner of a states popular vote gets all its electoral ones.
