INDIANAPOLIS (Indiana) - MICHAEL Phelps, winner of eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics, posted the fastest qualifying time in the 200m freestyle on Wednesday at the US swimming championships.
Phelps clocked 1min 46.31sec to book his berth in the finals, and was due to contest the 200m butterfly heats later in the morning. Phelps won both events in world record times in Beijing.
The events are among the four Phelps will race in the five-day meet, which will determine the team for the World Championships in Rome later this month. -- AFP
