Striker Savidan to retire

PARIS - CAEN striker Steve Savidan is set to retire from football after tests revealed a heart condition during a medical examination with Monaco.

The 31-year-old Savidan was poised to join Monaco until tests revealed the heart problem, the Web site of sports daily L'Equipe reported on Saturday, without giving further details.

Savidan was to give a press conference later on Saturday.

Savidan scored 14 league goals for Caen, which was relegated last season, and he made his debut for France in a friendly match against Uruguay in November. -- AP
