LONDON - FORMER world number one Marat Safin was forced to pull out of the pre-Wimbledon warm-up event at Queen's with a back injury on Wednesday.
Safin was due to play Xavier Malisse in the second round, but the Russian withdrew just hours before his opening match of the grass-court tournament in west London.
The former Australian and US Open champion, who was replaced in the Queen's draw by South Africa's Rik de Voest, will now hope he can recover in time to play at Wimbledon, which gets under way on June 22. -- AFP
