BEIJING - INDONESIA'S world champions Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan powered into the Olympic final of the men's badminton doubles on Friday over Denmark veterans Lars Paaske and Jonas Rasmussen.
The Indonesian top seeds battered the Danes into submission for a 21-19, 21-17 victory and eliminate the last remaining Europeans from the tournament.
With Denmark's Crown Prince Frederik supporting from the stands, the European champions mounted a late comeback in the second game, winning four straight points to be just one behind at 17-18.
But the Indonesians, ranked number one in the world, held their nerve and refused to concede another point.
The Indonesians play the winners of the upcoming match between China's second seeds Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng and South Korea's Lee Jae Jin and Hwang Ji Man.
China are gunning for a clean sweep of all five gold medals at this tournament, including the men's doubles which they have never won at the Olympics since badminton's introduction at the 1992 Barcelona Games. -- AFP
