May 29: Fifa congress takes place in Sydney, where it discusses the new five-year residency rule.
May 30: Fifa passes new ruling that players must fulfil a five-year residency period before they can switch national associations.
June: Qiu plays in three of Singapore's World Cup qualifiers after receiving the necessary accreditation from Fifa.
Oct 14: The Asian Football Confederation retroactively enforces Fifa's five-year residency rule and stops Qiu from playing in the friendly against Vietnam in Hanoi.
Nov 4: The Football Association of Singapore appeals to Fifa, citing that Qiu was awarded citizenship before the new rules took effect.
Nov 25: Fifa turns down appeal. It insists that Qiu cannot represent Singapore and rules that the match against Bahrain in May, in which Qiu had made his debut, is not considered a competitive game. It says the five-year residency rule had kicked in when Qiu played in June's World Cup qualifiers.
The FAS argues that the Bahrain match was sanctioned by Fifa and world ranking points were at stake. Also, Qiu had received the green light from Fifa to play in the World Cup qualifiers.
