CALL it a Christmas light-up with a difference.

Instead of just one theme, this year's light-up will have two distinct ones, and will extend to the Singapore River as well.

Orchard Road will be decked out with familiar Christmas icons like baubles, holly and, of course, Santa Claus.

Marina Bay, meanwhile, will break away from Christmas tradition: Gold will be the main theme there.

The area's decorations have drawn inspiration from the mythological story of King Midas, who turned all that he touched into gold.

Stores and sidewalks along the Singapore River will be festooned with regular holiday lights to add festive cheer to the area.
