CLEANER Gan Beet Phang, 60, was dumbfounded when 35 of her colleagues surprised her with yellow gerbera daisies while she was clearing tables at Suntec's food court on Tuesday.

It was their way of expressing their appreciation for Madam Gan's kindness and her willingness to help fellow workers.

This gesture, which the Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) calls the 'Kindness Ambush', is what it wants the public to do on World Kindness Day next Friday.

SKM will give out about 45,000 free daisies for those who wish to show their gratitude to someone kind on that day. These flowers will be distributed at more than 60 venues here including Hitachi Tower at Raffles Place and Wisma Atria on Nov 13.

There is also a slew of other secondary activities. Some 31 primary schools here, for instance, will be given a kit which includes a fold-it-yourself paper flower for them to give to someone kind.
