TAIPEI - A SINGAPORE businessman has landed in trouble with the law after some Taiwanese celebrities accused him of tricking them into taking part in a Halloween charity concert.

A police report was made against Mr David Looi Chong Wee, 35, over the concert on Saturday.

This comes just two weeks after he was arrested, when a French restaurant he used to work for accused him of stealing money.

Mr Looi, who has denied any wrongdoing, is the only child of Mr Looi San Cheng, owner of the well-known Tip Top Curry Puff in Ang Mo Kio.

Both father and son were in the news in 2006, when Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong singled them out in his National Day Rally speech for their entrepreneurial spirit in expanding the family business to China.

On Monday, the Taiwan media reported that the younger Looi had allegedly duped artists such as Van Fan Yi Chen into performing at the charity concert by telling them that popular singer Wang Lee-hom would also appear.
