PADANG (Indonesia) - A CNN journalist on the scene in Padang is reporting that a Singaporean man who had been trapped under the rubble of his hotel was now free and receiving medical attention.
According to Mark Phillips, he spoke to the Singaporean man who was in the foyer of the city hotel when the quake struck.
'One of his legs is pinned and he can't feel it anymore. He can move his hands and he has been drinking water,' Mr Phillips told CNN television earlier on Thursday.
'I can't see him, but I can talk to him through a gap in the debris. He asked me to call his two daughters in Singapore, which I did through colleagues.'
The man and his two daughters have yet to be indentified.
Mr Phillips explained that the Indonesian military was attempting to rescue the man.
'He is hanging on, but his voice is getting a little weaker. He has been trapped here for nearly 24 hours,' said Mr Phillips.
According to the unconfirmed CNN report, the man was thought to be the last person trapped in the hotel.
He was apparently meeting with four other people - three have been freed and one is reportedly dead, said Mr Phillips.
'He has been asking about the fourth person he was with, but I was told not to tell him the other has died -- just that I would try and find him,' he said.
Unconfirmed reports say that the man has been freed from the rubble and was taken to a medical centre. The man was said to have shown 'two thumbs up' to reporters on the scene after being rescued. -- CNN
