A NEW Formula One car has arrived in town, but it will not take part in the race - it is made entirely of bread.
This life-size bread car in the lobby of Royal Plaza on Scotts is on a mission: to raise $10,000 for the Community Chest's Metta School. It will be on display till Sept 27.
On Wednesday, finishing touches were made to the car, which took six chefs, two artists, two engineering technicians and two culinary staff members to create.
The car, which is made of 1,000 loaves of bread, is moulded from the following ingredients: about 14 litres of water, 15kg of yeast, 2kg of salt, 10.8 litres of food varnish and an undisclosed amount of flour.
Visitors to the Scotts Road hotel are invited to guess the weight of flour used to create the vehicle. The grand winner will walk away with $1,000.
To raise money, the hotel is selling $5 lucky draw tickets and will donate $2 from every adult dinner purchased at its buffet, until Sept 19.
It will also donate part of the money from the sales of specially made cookies and chocolates. General manager Patrick Fiat said: 'What better way to usher in Singapore's second night motor racing season than doing something meaningful for charity and the underprivileged.'
