Loan sharks lock up 80-year-old

AN 80-YEAR-OLD woman, who lives in the same HDB block as a debtor who borrowed from loan sharks, was locked up in her own home on Monday.

Madam Yang Ie Yeo was alone in her Rivervale Crescent unit in the afternoon on July 6 when the incident occurred. She only realised that she had been locked up and that her unit had been splashed with yellow paint when two police officers knocked on her door.

Th officers had to call for assistance to remove the padlock on her unit.

Madam Yang's neighbour, who alerted the police, said this was not the first incident of loan shark harassment in theirblock.

Loan shark runners have previously vandalised a debtor's guarantor's unit. They also splashed paint on letter boxes at the foot of the block.
