Unwilling tenants move out

MOST of the remaining tenants who refused to sign new tenancy contracts at the Grangeford Apartments have vacated the building after their new landlord cut off the power and water two days ago.

Cove Development, which took over the building on Leonie Hill Road last month, after the previous landlord - Ideal Accomodation - was found to have breached Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) regulations, cut off the utilities for a few tenants who had held out in their rooms.

The development group, a unit of Overseas Union Enterprise (OUE) a Singapore company, which also owns the Grangeford, said it had taken the action after giving the tenants almost a month to either sign a new lease or move out.
