CERTIFICATE of entitlement prices showed no sign of softening at the latest tender which ended at 4pm on Wednesday.
In fact, most premiums have effectively doubled in the last three months, and are now at the highest levels in more than a year.
COE for cars up to 1,600cc ended at $14,310, from $12,899 in the previous tender three weeks ago. COE for cars above 1,600cc hit $16,801, from $14,840.
Open COE, which can be used for any vehicle type but ends up mainly for cars, shot up from $15,100 to $17,501 - the highest since April 2008.
The COE price for commercial vehicles was equally firm, ending at $16,888, up sharply from $12,615.
Only the motorcycle premium remained flat, at $900 (from $901).
Trader observers reckon an anticipated supply shrinkage from October had triggered panic bidding and caused rates to spiral.
