Maid jailed for stealing
By Elena Chong, Courts Correspondent

AN INDONESIAN maid who stole $9,696 worth of property from her employer's wife was jailed for four months on Monday.

Ninig, 33, admitted to stealing cash of $1,000, RM200 (S$83) and assorted jewellery amounting to $8,613 from Madam Mohana Radha Rajoo, 34, at a flat in Sturdee Road in Lavender on June 2.

A district court heard that after leaving the flat with the stolen property, Ninig approached a police officer at HarbourFront ferry terminal on June 3.

She was crying when she admitted that she had run away from her employer's home and was trying to return to Batam.

All except $180 was recovered from her.

She could have been jailed for up to seven years and fined for the offence.
