By Lisabel Ting

THE number of Influenza A (H1N1) cases here has crossed the 1,000 mark.

The Ministry of Health on Saturday confirmed 34 new cases, bringing the total to 1,003 confirmed cases. No new cluster was reported.

Investigations are on-going for 69 cases. Of the 62 cases investigated on Saturday, 39 were local cases and 23 imported.

Of the 934 cases investigated so far, 541 were local cases and 393 imported.

The ministry reiterated that the current strain remains mild except for high-risk individuals with underlying medical conditions where complications and even death may occur.

It called on people to observe good personal hygiene. If they are unwell with flu-like symptoms like fever, cough, sore throat and a runny nose, they should seek medical attention promptly.

Doctors at the nearest Pandemic Preparedness Clinic or polyclinics or their usual GPs would be able to manage them, it said.

Based on the severity of the illness and other risk factors, doctors at these clinics may refer patients to hospitals for further management. Hospitals are now positioned to manage the more severe cases, it added.

The public should also check the ministry's website for updates.
