Would-be thief foiled
By Goh Yi Han
A THIEF who tried to steal a mobile phone from a 16th-storey flat in Jurong West ended up being chased to the ground floor by its 28-year-old occupant.

The man, who is a technician, had left his flat door unlocked and was on the computer with his back to the door.

He turned around when he heard a noise, to see a man, who had a fair complexion and looked to be in his 20s, in the doorway.

He claimed to be looking for the technician's flatmate.

After checking the bedroom to see if his flatmate was in, the technician came out to find his mobile phone missing from the living room table.

He confronted the visitor who returned him the phone and fled there and then. The technician gave chase but eventually lost sight of the thief after they reached the ground floor.

The police are appealing for witnesses to these incidents.
