WITH the surge in the number of H1N1 flu cases in Singapore, many worried about the spread of the virus do not think students should return to school next week when holidays end.

About 70 per cent of those surveyed in an online poll by MSN Singapore strongly felt that students should not go return to classes.

The survey results, released on Friday, showed that out of the 4,400 polled, about 40 per cent said that sending kids back will expose them to the virus.

A third said that students should not only be disallowed back at school, they should not be seen hanging out at malls either.

The remaining 28 per cent believe that kids have no excuse and should head back to school.

16 per cent brushed off the severity of the virus and insisted that their children return to school, while 12 per cent, though acknowledging the H1N1 threat, are concerned about their kids falling behind their studies and believe that they should go back.

On Thursday, Singapore's H1N1 curve soared rapidly with 95 new patients, the highest number so far. There are now 315 cases in total.
