TWO more resorts have been converted into quarantine quarters for those linked to H1N1.
The HomeTeam NS and People's Association chalets in Pasir Ris will play this role in addition to those at the Aloha Loyang resort, which has been used for quarantine purposes since early May, said a spokesman for the National Development Ministry on Tuesday.
'With the increase in the number of cases, the Government has decided to convert two more chalet resorts into quarantine facilities,' he said.
The move raises the number of rooms set aside for those quarantined to over 200, from about 130 at Aloha Loyang.
The Straits Times understands that this is being done although Aloha Loyang resort has not reached capacity.
Like the Loyang chalets, the two resorts in Pasir Ris Park are intended for people such as tourists, who cannot serve out their quarantine at home. Residents whose homes are deemed unsuitable for quarantine will also be taken there.
Some of the newest occupants of the HomeTeam NS chalets are Hong Kong team members here for the Asian Youth Games (AYG). They include 11 footballers, three coaches, a physiotherapist and a team official.
They had been taken by bus to Aloha Loyang on Monday, but were made to wait outside the gates for more than an hour.
Security guards refused to let them in, saying they did not have the necessary paperwork. The bus eventually took the group to the new quarantine centre.
Explaining the mix-up last night, a spokesman for the AYG organising committee said there was a 'miscommunication' between the coordinators handling the transfer to the quarantine centre.
He said the organisers had apologised to the Hong Kong team.
