FOREIGN Affairs Minister George Yeo met his Malaysian counterpart Anifah Aman in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday for talks on bilateral issues, including on the Points of Agreement (POA), a document signed almost two decades ago.
Mr Yeo was in the Malaysian capital at the invitation of Datuk Anifah, said a joint press statement by the Singapore and Malaysian Foreign Affairs ministries.
It was a follow-up to Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak's visit to Singapore in May and the decision by Datuk Seri Najib and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to have the Foreign Ministers work on the issue of the Points of Agreement.
The joint statement said Mr Anifah and Mr Yeo had a good discussion and reaffirmed the close bilateral relationship and cooperation between the two countries.
On the POA issue, they agreed to take a broader win-win approach to resolve the issue.
They discussed ways to move the POA issue forward, and agreed to meet again at an early date to sort out further details.
The POA was signed in November 1990 by then-Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and Malaysia's then-Finance Minister Daim Zainuddin.
It sets out, among other things, the terms of development and status of railway land in Singapore.
At Tuesday's meeting, Mr Anifah and Mr Yeo also discussed Mr Najib and Mr Lee having a retreat in Singapore in the later part of the year.
