WHAT happens when you throw a party and not that many people turn up?

Exhibitors who pulled out the stops at this year's Infocomm Media Business Exchange, billed as Asia's largest tech trade show, may now be asking themselves that.

Despite crowd-pulling gimmicks such as furry mascots, a bevy of dancing girls and booth babes, as well as cafe-bars, fewer visitors turned up this year to sample the wares.

At the close of the four-day exhibition, which officially started on Tuesday, there were about 40,000 visitors to CommunicAsia, BroadcastAsia and CG Overdrive, the main attractions of the event.

About 45 per cent of the visitors came from overseas.

Counting the exhibitors, delegates to the forums and conferences, and media, 54,354 people attended the show, roughly a 13 per cent decrease from last year's figure.
